Egypt's Damietta Port Hit by Unidentified Aerial Attacks on LNG Vessels

A recent incident at Egypt's Damietta port has left two LNG vessels damaged after being hit by unidentified aerial projectiles. According to multiple maritime security agencies, including Greece-based Marisks and UK-based Vanguard Tech, the attacks occurred during cargo discharge operations between an LNG carrier and a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) terminal.

The FSRU involved in the incident is reportedly US-owned Energos Winter, while the second vessel affected was the Greek-owned LNG carrier Gaslog Salem. Vanguard Tech indicated that both vessels were struck on the starboard side near the No 2 forward cargo tanks.

The attacks have been described as a 'significant escalation' by Marisks, marking the first reported incident affecting Egypt's Mediterranean LNG export infrastructure since the current regional conflict intensified. However, no official confirmation or attribution of the incident has been made, with Egyptian authorities remaining tight-lipped on the matter.
