Drought-Hit England's Worst Harvest Sparks Food Price Fears
England is on course for its worst harvest ever due to drought conditions in parts of the country. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit reported that this year's harvest has hit a historic low, with some areas experiencing their driest conditions on record.
In contrast, Scotland has seen more favorable growing conditions, but economists warn that rising food prices are still inevitable. Paul Allan, owner of Murdoch Allan Bakery in Aberdeenshire, fears bread prices could rise due to milling wheat availability issues.
While some Scottish crops, such as those grown in Aberdeenshire, are looking promising, yields across the UK and Europe are likely to be down. The potato industry body, GB Potatoes, expects yields to be lower than usual when harvested in the coming weeks.
