Duke Energy's Biggest Bet on Natural Gas

Duke Energy has announced plans to build its largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Davidson County, marking a significant investment for the company. The new facility will be the largest LNG project in Duke Energy's history and is expected to meet growing demand for natural gas.

The location of the new facility was not specified, but it is likely to be near existing infrastructure. Ryan Smith, general manager of the Piedmont Natural Gas liquefied natural gas facility in Huntersville, said that the new facility will help remove impurities from natural gas before it is vaporized and prepared for storage.

Methane, a key component of natural gas, needs to be cooled to around -260 degrees Fahrenheit to become a liquid. This allows large volumes of energy to be stored in a relatively small space.
