Dutch Central Bank Moves Billions in Gold Reserves Out of North America
The Dutch central bank has moved billions of dollars worth of its gold reserves out of North America as part of 'crisis preparedness' due to global political unrest.
Between March and August, a total of 94.8 tons of gold were transferred to London from New York and Ottawa, Canada, where around 345 tons were previously held.
The Dutch bank now holds its gold reserves in two locations: its heavily guarded vault on a military base near Zeist, which is home to over 27 metric tons of gold physically transported from the United States and Canada, and London's Bank of England, which is considered the most easily tradable gold.
The bank's governor, Olaf Sleijpen, stated that this relocation will improve the 'tradability' of its gold reserves and strengthen its resilience and preparedness.
