Dutch Central Bank Shifts Billions in Gold from North America to London
The Dutch central bank has relocated billions of dollars' worth of its gold reserves from North America to London, citing 'crisis preparedness' in a time of global political unrest.
Between March and August, around 86 metric tons (94.8 tons) of gold were transferred to the Bank of England from the combined total of around 313 metric tons (345 tons) held in New York and Ottawa, Canada.
This move has reduced the proportion of gold held in North America, with both cities now holding 18.5% of the Dutch central bank's gold reserves, down from 31.3% and 19.7% respectively.
The total value of the relocated gold is approximately $83.6 billion at current prices, based on its worth at the end of last year.
