Dutch Gas Prices Soar Amid Escalating US-Iran Tensions
Dutch natural gas futures surged by 4.7% on Monday to reach their strongest level since March 19, 2026, as direct U.S.-Iranian military confrontations in the Middle East heightened concerns about European supply security ahead of the autumn heating season.
The front-month contract on the Dutch benchmark climbed 3.15 euros to settle at 70.10 euros per megawatt-hour, breaking through the 70-euro mark for the first time in over five months.
The sudden military escalation raises concerns about a prolonged shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz, which historically handles around 20% of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments, primarily from Qatar. European utilities and Asian buyers are now competing fiercely for available spot LNG cargoes.
