Eagle Springs Refinery Reopens with Limited Capacity
Nevada's only oil refinery has restarted operations after undergoing repairs and upgrades worth $300,000. The Eagle Springs Refinery, located in Railroad Valley, about 260 miles north of Las Vegas, received a state air permit from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. The refinery has a capacity to process approximately 5,000 barrels of crude oil per day but would exhaust its supply within days if operating at full production.
Compared to other refineries in the US, such as the Port Arthur refinery in Texas, which can refine 730,000 barrels per day, Eagle Springs is a small operation. The majority of fuel for Las Vegas gas stations comes from refineries in the Los Angeles area.
The restart of the refinery is seen as a positive step towards increasing domestic oil production. Marcus Laun, interim CEO of Sky Quarry, which owns the refinery, stated that their goal is to ramp up Eagle Springs to its full operating potential and make Nevada-refined products more significant in the region's supply.
