Europe and East Asia are bracing for early cold snaps next week, presenting an early challenge to energy markets already strained by high prices and competition for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies.
Temperatures across much of continental Europe are expected to drop 2C to 3C below average starting this weekend. Simultaneously, a cold wave is forecast to hit northeastern China, Japan, and South Korea, with some regions seeing temperatures 5C below normal.
The sudden chill comes as energy markets remain volatile, with prices elevated due to supply constraints and increased demand for LNG cargoes. The situation will test the resilience of gas markets in both regions as they navigate the early winter conditions.
