Eby Promises Gas Price Relief in B.C., Conservatives Criticize
British Columbia's New Democratic Party leader David Eby announced a two-part plan to lower gas prices in the province. The first part involves a temporary reduction of the provincial motor fuel tax by 10 cents per litre on both gasoline and diesel, which would save the average two-car family up to $100 per month.
The second part is a permanent 'price guard' that would regulate the price at gas pumps, with updates made weekly based on the benchmark price for crude oil. Eby said this measure would ensure stability, predictability, and transparency in gas prices.
In response, Conservative interim leader Lorne Doerkson criticized Eby's plan, pointing out that he failed to deliver on a promise of $1,000 relief to households made during the 2024 election campaign.
