ECB's Pereira Warns of Broadening Euro Zone Inflation Risks

The European Central Bank (ECB) has stated that euro zone inflation is not broadening as widely as in past episodes, but policymakers are keeping a close eye on developments.

Álvaro Santos Pereira, the Portuguese central bank chief and a member of the ECB's Governing Council, made these comments at a European Economics and Financial Centre event in London. He noted that inflation is not spreading as quickly across sectors as it did during the 2022 surge.

Pereira emphasized the importance of monitoring developments closely, particularly in light of the recent surge in natural gas prices. He also highlighted the impact of the AI boom on global growth and inflation as a key risk that central bankers are grappling with.
