Eemshaven LNG Terminal Delivers 14 Months' Worth of Gas to Czechia
The Eemshaven liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the Netherlands has handled 92 ships carrying gas for Czechia since its operation began in September 2022. The ships delivered a total of 8.2 billion cubic meters of gas, equivalent to around 14 months' worth of consumption in the country and more than four years' consumption by all Czech households.
The terminal has been instrumental in ensuring sufficient gas supplies for Czech households and industry during the energy crisis. ČEZ CEO Daniel Beneš noted that LNG deliveries through Eemshaven helped them navigate the crisis, thanks to their decision to invest in capacity at the floating terminal.
ČEZ's involvement in operating the terminal has also facilitated planning and negotiating deliveries. The company's LNG manager, David Viduna, stated that they actively negotiate with partners on the global market, which has allowed them to buy LNG in good time despite the current shortage.
