Eemshaven LNG Terminal Delivers Critical Gas Supplies to Czech Republic
The Eemshaven LNG terminal in the Netherlands has been a vital source of gas for the Czech Republic, handling a total of 92 ships since its operation began in September 2022. These ships delivered 8.2 billion cubic meters of gas, equivalent to around 14 months' worth of domestic consumption and more than four years' consumption by all Czech households.
The terminal's capacity allows it to process eight billion cubic meters of gas per year, with up to three billion being sent to the Czech Republic. ČEZ, a prominent energy company, has leased capacity until September next year but is currently negotiating an extension with the government's support.
The majority of the gas delivered to Eemshaven comes from the United States, and ČEZ CEO Daniel Beneš attributed the terminal's success to its investment in capacity. 'LNG supplies through the facility in Eemshaven helped us ensure sufficient gas for Czech households and industry even during the energy crisis,' he said.
