Eemshaven LNG Terminal Delivers Record Gas Volumes to Czech Republic
The Eemshaven LNG terminal in the Netherlands has been busy since its opening in September 2022, handling a total of 92 ships carrying gas for the Czech Republic. These shipments brought in 8.2 billion cubic meters of gas, equivalent to around 14 months' worth of domestic consumption or more than four years' consumption by all Czech households.
The terminal has been crucial in ensuring sufficient gas supplies for Czech households and industry, even during the ongoing energy crisis. ČEZ CEO Daniel Beneš credited the company's involvement with planning and negotiating supply deals, saying that they 'actively negotiate with partners in the global market, which has paid off greatly this year.'
The deliveries have been uninterrupted despite the crisis in the Middle East, with most of the ships coming from the United States. ČEZ has leased capacity at the terminal until September next year, but the government has tasked them with negotiating an extension.
