Egypt and Eni Accelerate Gas Field Development in Mediterranean and Western Desert

Egypt's Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi met with Eni representatives to review ongoing projects and plans to boost production in Egypt. The Italian energy giant has been operating in the country since 1954, producing around 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025.

Badawi emphasized the importance of intensified coordination among stakeholders to accelerate bringing the Denise offshore gas field into production. Located on the Eastern Mediterranean coast, the field is expected to produce 130,000 barrels of condensate daily and around 2 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas.

Eni holds a 50 percent contractor working interest in the Denise Development Lease, while British energy giant BP holds the other 50 percent. The company contributes around 40 percent of Egypt's natural gas production, with investments reaching $8.5 billion and plans to invest an additional $8 billion over the next five years.

The Meleiha field in the Western Desert is nearing completion, with Eni holding a 38 percent interest. The facility is expected to generate an additional 80 million cubic feet per day before the end of September.
