Egypt Bolsters Eastern Mediterranean Energy Hub with Existing Infrastructure
Egypt is strengthening its position as an Eastern Mediterranean energy hub by maximizing the use of existing infrastructure to connect hydrocarbons with domestic and international markets.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) has identified infrastructure and regional connectivity as key components of its strategy, with links to neighboring producers, particularly Cyprus, forming an important part of this approach.
Damietta and Idku provide established LNG export infrastructure for monetizing domestic and regional gas. The Damietta LNG plant has a liquefaction capacity of about 5 million tons per year (mt/y), while Idku's two trains together provide roughly 7.2 mt/y.
