Egypt Boosts Wheat Procurement and Storage Amid Food Security Efforts
Egypt has strengthened its food security strategy by increasing domestic wheat procurement and supporting local farmers.
The government procured over 4 million tons of locally produced wheat during the 2026 procurement season, with more than 3.1 million feddans cultivated with wheat during the 2025/2026 agricultural season.
The procurement price was set at EGP 2,200 per ardeb to encourage local production, and officials say this has significantly reduced post-harvest losses, improved grain quality, and enhanced supply chain efficiency.
