Egypt Gold Market Introduces Transparent Stone Weight Disclosure
The gold jewelry market in Egypt is taking steps towards greater transparency with a new model that clearly discloses stone weights, separating them from the total weight of the piece. This allows customers to know exactly how much gold they are paying for and not be confused between the total weight and actual gold weight.
Under this model, companies will deduct the weight of stones from the total weight to determine the net gold weight contained in the piece. The cost of stones is incorporated into the jewelry's manufacturing and craftsmanship cost according to its pricing mechanism.
The move aims to end a long-standing debate over how stone weights should be treated in the resale process. Mustafa Saber, Managing Director and Executive Director of Master Gold Egypt, stated that customers want greater clarity on what they are paying for when purchasing gold jewelry.
The new model is seen as a step towards rebuilding consumer confidence in gold jewelry, which combines both adornment and savings. With rising gold prices, consumers have become increasingly sensitive to the weight and cost of their purchases.
