Egypt Reiterates Solidarity with Saudi Arabia Amid Escalating Yemen Conflict
Egypt has reaffirmed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi missile and drone attacks on oil infrastructure in Yanbu and Jizan. The Houthi rebels launched the strikes as a retaliatory measure against Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on the strategic port city of Hodeida.
The Houthi military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, reported that their assault targeted Aramco assets in the Red Sea cities of Yanbu and Jizan. Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, stated that coalition operations focused on 'legitimate military targets' used by the Houthi militia to threaten commercial vessels.
The exchange comes as tensions escalate between the Houthis and their allies in Iran, who are accused of supporting the rebels. US President Donald Trump warned that Washington would hold Tehran accountable for further Houthi attacks, stating: 'If they do this again, the U.S. will hold Iran responsible...and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis, themselves.'
Egypt's response condemned all strikes against civilian infrastructure and Red Sea shipping, reaffirming the importance of respecting international navigation through regional straits to guarantee global trade and supply chains.
