Egypt Sets Record Wheat Production as Imports Plummet

Egypt's wheat production is set to reach a record high of 10 million tonnes in the 2026-27 marketing year, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture.

This represents a steady increase from previous years, with the FAS estimating a 23% decrease in Egypt's wheat imports for 2026-27 to 12 million tonnes. This would be the country's lowest import total since 2022-23.

The increased production is attributed to the government's dual strategy of expanding land devoted to wheat cultivation and boosting yields on existing acreage. The Agricultural Research Center is encouraging farmers to adopt raised bed cultivation techniques, using early maturing high-yielding wheat varieties, and distributing certified seeds to growers.
