Egypt Surpasses Italy as Top Destination for US LNG Exports

US LNG exports to Egypt skyrocketed in June 2026, increasing by a staggering 236% year-over-year (YoY) to 86.047 billion cubic feet, according to data from the US Department of Energy (DOE). This massive surge made Egypt the largest destination for US liquefied natural gas (LNG) during the month.

In addition to its YoY growth, Egypt's LNG imports also experienced a significant monthly increase, rising by 138% from May's 36.168 billion cubic feet. During June, Egypt received an impressive 26 US LNG cargoes.

The data also revealed that Italy ranked second in terms of US LNG imports, with 51.6 billion cubic feet arriving in June, representing an 11% month-over-month (MoM) and 22% YoY growth.

Looking at the first half of 2026, Egypt's total LNG imports from the US stand at a substantial 314.6 billion cubic feet, marking an annual increase of nearly 173.6%. This significant growth is likely to have a positive impact on Egypt's energy sector and economy.
