Egyptian Gold Prices Drop, But Experts See No Shift Away
Gold prices in Egypt have declined from their peak at the beginning of the year, but experts expect the precious metal to remain a key savings option. Despite recovering almost eight percent of its losses since the start of the year, gold prices in the Egyptian market have dropped from their peak of EGP 7,475 per gram for 21-karat gold on February 28th.
The sharp correction in 2026 should be viewed as a period of weaker momentum and heightened volatility rather than the beginning of the end of its long-term uptrend, according to Saeed Embaby, CEO of gold trading platform iSagha. Gold's role as a store of value and safe haven should be assessed over the long term rather than through daily price movements.
The choice between gold, bank savings certificates, and real estate ultimately depends on the investor's objective, said Embaby. Savers seeking regular monthly income may find bank certificates more suitable, while gold is more closely associated with preserving value and long-term investment.
