Egyptian Gold Prices Surge, Outpacing Global Markets
Gold prices in Egypt saw a significant increase over the past week, rising by around 2.1% to reach EGP 6,245 per gram for 21-karat gold. This represents an increase of approximately EGP 130 from the previous week's price of EGP 6,115 per gram.
The global market also saw a rise in gold prices, with a gain of around 0.8% to reach $4,377 per ounce. However, Egyptian prices rose at a faster pace than international markets, reflecting the influence of domestic pricing factors such as the exchange rate and local premium.
The official US dollar exchange rate against the Egyptian pound rose by nearly 1% during the week, from EGP 49.85 to EGP 50.33, while the local gold premium increased by around EGP 9 per gram. This movement confirms that domestic gold prices in Egypt do not automatically mirror changes in international markets.
