Egypt's Gas Supplies Unscathed by Damietta Port Fires

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi confirmed that Egypt's gas and fuel supplies are fully secured after fires broke out at Damietta Port. The incidents, which occurred on July 29 and involved a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and a storage vessel, were initially attributed to a drone.

Badawi visited the National Control Center for Egypt's National Natural Gas Grid at GASCO to review the stability of the network's operations. He emphasized that the preparatory emergency plans, proactive scenarios, and operational alternatives prepared proved effective in responding immediately to the fires.

The Energos Winter, the affected vessel, is capable of re-gasifying up to 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, enabling imported LNG to be fed directly into the national gas grid. Badawi stated that the stability achieved in the supply system reflects the success of the early preparations and proactive scenarios developed before the summer season.
