EIG's MidOcean Energy Joins LNG Canada Phase 2 Expansion
LNG Canada's Phase 2 expansion has secured new investment from MidOcean Energy. The company, formed and managed by EIG, a leading institutional investor in energy and infrastructure sectors, will participate in the project through its partnership with PETRONAS.
The Final Investment Decision (FID) for Phase 2 was made on September 29, 2026. MidOcean's participation follows its acquisition of a 20% interest in the North Montney Upstream Joint Venture and the North Montney LNG Limited Partnership in December 2025.
Phase 2 will add two liquefaction trains at LNG Canada's facility in Kitimat, British Columbia, increasing production capacity from 14 mtpa to 28 mtpa. The expansion is expected to provide access to Canadian natural gas resources and competitive shipping routes to Asian markets.
