Energy Sector Surges 16% in Q3 Amid Oil Price Rally
The energy sector has outperformed the S&P 500 in Q3, advancing 16% compared to the broader market's 2% rise. This significant gain was driven by rising oil prices and squeezed global oil supplies due to conflict in the Middle East.
Crude oil logged quarterly gains of nearly 32%, approaching year-highs. Marathon Petroleum emerged as the top performer, gaining nearly 48%. The company benefited from expanding refining margins in Q3, according to Multiplo Invest analyst. Valero Energy also saw significant growth, increasing by 45%.
Texas Pacific Land was the worst performer, slipping 20% between July and September. EQT lost 7% during the same period. The company reported disappointing revenue from land sales and water services that fell short of expectations, Multiplo Invest noted.
