Eni CEO Meets Argentine President Amid Argentina LNG Project Progress
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi met with Argentine President Javier Milei in Paris to discuss the progress of the Argentina LNG project. The meeting, which took place during Argentina Week events, focused on developing the country's natural gas resources and expanding its position in international energy markets.
The Argentina LNG project, being developed by Eni, state-controlled YPF, and Abu Dhabi-based XRG, aims to monetize Vaca Muerta gas through an integrated production, processing, transportation, and export system. The initial development would have a 12 million-tonne-per-annum (mtpa) LNG production capacity, using two floating LNG facilities capable of producing 6 mtpa each.
The project has made significant progress in 2026, with Eni signing a binding joint development agreement with YPF and XRG in February for the 12-mtpa phase. In June, Eni acquired a 32% interest in the Meseta Buena Esperanza, Aguada Villanueva, and Las Tacanas blocks in Vaca Muerta, giving it a direct upstream position in acreage intended to supply the LNG development.
