Enstar Pipeline Leak Threatens Service Near Whittier

Enstar Natural Gas is racing to repair a gas pipeline leak near Whittier, Alaska. The break was discovered on Sunday after a boater reported smelling gas in the Twentymile River.

A crew investigated the pipeline on Monday and confirmed that the leak was located in a submerged portion of the pipeline.

As of Tuesday, there had been no interruption to gas service, but Enstar's utility spokeswoman Harley Hedlund said this could change. 'That service may be interrupted periodically as our Enstar teams are repairing the line over that repair period,' she explained.

Hedlund estimated that the repair process will take around 30-45 days and that there is currently no suspected cause for the leak.
