Equinor ASA (EQNR), a Norwegian energy company, has strengthened its presence in the Dutch natural gas market with a new five-year supply agreement with Eneco. This is the third such deal between the two firms this year. Under the agreement, Equinor will deliver approximately 9 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas annually, equivalent to nearly 0.9 billion cubic meters (bcm), sourced from the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) to the Netherlands' power grid. The supplies began on October 1, 2026, though financial details remain undisclosed.
The agreement includes a provision for tracking the environmental attributes and greenhouse gas emissions of the supplied natural gas. Eneco will use a digital platform operated by Attributes SA to monitor the origin and emissions footprint. Equinor claims that the natural gas supplied under this deal has an 11.8% lower lifecycle greenhouse gas footprint compared to the Dutch grid average.
The deal underscores Equinor's pivotal role in Europe's energy security, as a leading supplier of piped gas to the region. For Eneco, the agreement ensures a reliable natural gas supply for Dutch residents while accounting for upstream emissions. Equinor currently holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), alongside other top-ranked energy stocks like PBF Energy (PBF), Valero Energy (VLO), and Galp Energia SGPS SA (GLPEY).
