Eskişehir Jeweler Preserves Ancient Gold Knitting Art

Hüseyin Altay is a jeweler from Eskişehir who has been working in the field for over 25 years. He explained that his specialty, Sivrihisar cebesi, is a traditional knitting art that dates back to the Phrygian period, around 1500-1600 years ago.

Altay stated that this cultural heritage will not be affected by artificial intelligence and technology because it's entirely handcrafted. He said that after working in various fields, he focused on producing Sivrihisar cebesi.

The production process involves melting gold bullion into wire, followed by knitting, extraction, washing, combing, locking, polishing, buffing, and gilding processes. One product takes around 3-4 days to complete.

According to Altay, the prices of Sivrihisar cebesi vary depending on their grammage and model, ranging from 600 thousand to 1 million liras. For a special model using diamonds, a price of about 1 million 700 thousand liras is given.
