Estonia Blocks Russian Grain Transit Amid Disrupted Black Sea Routes
Estonia has banned the transit of Russian and Belarusian grain through its territory in response to disruptions to traditional Black Sea routes. The decision, announced on October 1 by Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, aims to limit the use of Baltic ports for Russian grain exports.
The ban comes as Russian exporters seek alternative routes amid the disruption to their usual shipping lanes. Until now, transit volumes of Russian grain through Estonia had been minimal.
Estonia is coordinating with Latvia and Lithuania to harmonize their approaches to limiting the use of Baltic ports for Russian grain exports. Tsahkna stated that Estonia does not intend to provide Russian grain with a new export route through its ports.
