EU Asked for Billions to Unblock Ukrainian Grain Exports

Ukraine's agricultural sector is facing a severe crisis due to its loss of unhindered access to the Black Sea, which has resulted in over 90% of its traditional maritime exports being disrupted. The country is now seeking €2 billion from the EU to facilitate grain exports via the Baltic States as an alternative route.

Experts estimate that if this situation continues, Ukraine could lose up to $10 billion in foreign currency revenue. To transport a ton of Ukrainian grain through the Baltic ports would be significantly more expensive for agricultural producers, with Kyiv needing up to $2 billion to cover these additional logistics costs.
