EU Calls for Black Sea Attack Moratorium to Secure Grain Exports

The European Union is calling for a moratorium on attacks in the Black Sea to ensure safe civilian shipping and restore stable food exports. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas made this initiative during a global food security event at the UN General Assembly.

Kallas emphasized that safe navigation and protection of port infrastructure are crucial for global food markets. The EU notes that maritime transport is essential for large volumes of Ukrainian agricultural exports, with alternative routes unable to fully replace the Black Sea corridor.

The proposed moratorium aims to reduce risks to civilian vessels, ports, and grain infrastructure, creating conditions for more predictable agricultural shipments through the Black Sea. The EU links the stability of this route to global food security.
