EU Confident in Avoiding Gas Shortages Amid Diversified Energy Mix
The European Union (EU) is confident it can avoid natural gas supply disruptions this winter despite reports of potential shortages.
This assurance comes as the EU has diversified its energy mix, including increased imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), to mitigate dependence on piped gas from Russia.
The EU's gas storage levels are currently 65% full, but this varies by country: Dutch storage is only 48% full, while France's storage capacity is at 72% of its peak. To ensure energy security during winter, mandates require storage levels above 90% between October 1 and December 1.
In contrast to some dire predictions, Ole Hanson from Saxo Bank notes that the issue isn't about shortages but rather low inventories and reduced output from renewables.
