EU Countries Refuse Ukraine Grain Export Hike Amid Farmer Protection Concerns
Ukraine's efforts to increase grain exports to European markets have hit a roadblock. The country has been seeking an increase in export restrictions, but both Romania and Poland have refused to comply. This decision is seen as a blow to Ukraine's agricultural sector, which relies heavily on foreign markets.
The dispute centers around the EU's desire to protect its own farmers from cheap Ukrainian wheat imports. Romanian authorities have stated that their priority remains the protection of local farmers, while Polish officials have exhausted all possibilities for assistance.
Ukraine had requested 1.1 billion euros to cover additional supply costs and increase grain exports. However, this request was met with resistance from both Romania and Poland.
