EU Natural Gas Demand Surges Amid Unseasonable Heatwave

Natural gas consumption in the European Union has risen by 5.2% year-on-year to 16.6 billion cubic meters in August this year, according to a report by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

The increase in demand was mainly driven by higher gas demand in the power generation sector due to unusually hot weather across much of Europe.

Unseasonable temperatures led to increased electricity consumption for cooling, with the average temperature in the European Union being 20.26°C, approximately 0.8°C higher than in August 2025.
