EU Reassures Citizens on Stable Gas Supply Amid Ongoing Geopolitical Tensions
The European Union has reassured citizens that there is no risk to gas supply in the region. The Gas Coordination Group met on September 24 and confirmed that, despite lower storage levels compared to historical averages, EU gas supply remains stable.
However, the situation remains sensitive due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, which is affecting international energy markets and driving up oil and gas prices. The International Energy Agency reported a fresh upward pressure on oil prices linked to export disruptions from the Middle East.
The European Commission reiterated its commitment to monitoring the situation closely, in cooperation with EU countries and stakeholders. A further meeting of the Gas Coordination Group is scheduled for October 8, which will include industry associations and present preliminary findings for the report on the EU's winter preparedness.
