EU Reassures on Secure Oil Supplies Amid Middle East Turmoil
The European Union has reassured its citizens that there are no immediate oil supply problems despite ongoing turmoil in the Middle East and volatile crude oil prices. A meeting of the Oil Coordination Group, comprising experts from various organizations including the International Energy Agency (IEA), NATO, and EU Member States, confirmed that supplies to the European market remain secure.
The Commission noted that demand for jet fuel and diesel is being met through increased refinery production in EU countries as well as alternative global markets. However, it warned that geopolitical uncertainty continues to drive significant volatility in crude oil and petroleum product prices.
Developments in the Middle East conflict, combined with the usual rise in energy demand during autumn and winter, could put further pressure on crude oil and petroleum product markets in the coming weeks and months, according to the Commission. It will continue to assess the impact of global market developments on Europe and support coordinated action when necessary.
