EU Rejects Ukraine Grain Export Bid Amid Concerns Over Cheap Wheat
The EU has rejected Ukraine's request to increase grain exports to European markets due to concerns over cheap Ukrainian wheat flooding the market and harming local farmers.
The decision was made after Romanian authorities and Poland refused to support Ukraine's bid to boost its exports, citing the needs of their own farmers as a priority.
Ukraine had asked for an increase in grain exports and a 1.1 billion euro fund to cover additional supply costs, but its request was met with resistance from Bucharest and Warsaw.
The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture stated that 'our priority remains the protection of Romanian farmers,' emphasizing the importance of safeguarding local interests.
