EU Rejects Ukraine Quota Renegotiation Amid Farmer Protests
The European Union has rejected Ukraine's request to renegotiate its export quotas, citing concerns from EU farmers over an influx of agricultural goods.
Last year, the EU reintroduced quotas for products such as wheat, sugar, and eggs in response to farmer protests.
Ukraine had sought an increased quota for its bioethanol exports produced from massive grain harvests, but the European Commission has stated that there are no plans to renegotiate export quotas with Ukrainian counterparts.
The current quotas cut imports of Ukrainian wheat and sugar compared to the quota-free period earlier in the war, though they represented an increase compared to pre-war quota levels.
