Europe Faces Record-Low Gas Storage Amid Winter Supply Fears
Europe's gas storage levels have dropped to record lows ahead of winter, prompting concerns about supply competition and potential price spikes.
The European Union's target for filling storage facilities by December is approximately 80%, but current reserves stand at around 67% capacity.
This low level, combined with disruptions to liquefied natural gas supplies from the Middle East due to transportation problems through the Strait of Hormuz, has led to a scramble for available American LNG cargoes in the event of a cold winter.
Asian spot prices have already nearly tripled this year compared to pre-war levels and are approaching $30 per million British thermal units. Experts warn that under an unfavorable scenario, they could rise to approximately $40 in winter.
