European Gas Prices Soar Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Gas prices in Europe have been fluctuating wildly due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and concerns over gas supply. Between August 7 and 17, prices ranged from 55.54 euros/MWh to 62.14 euros/MWh as the market reacted to these developments.
The low levels of European gas storage, currently at approximately 61% capacity - below the seasonal average of 78% - are putting pressure on the market. The pace of replenishment remains critical ahead of the cold season.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to Northwestern Europe have recently increased, exceeding the 30-day average by around 32%. However, uncertainty surrounding transit through the Strait of Hormuz and maintenance work in Norway are still affecting gas availability.
