European Gas Prices Soar on Low Winter Storage Levels
European gas prices have surged in recent days due to concerns over low storage levels ahead of winter. According to The Brussels Times, citing Belgian news agency Belga, Dutch natural gas futures rose by as much as 5 percent on Monday before easing slightly to €68.5 per megawatt hour, a 4 percent increase.
European gas storage facilities are currently around 62 percent full, the lowest level recorded since 2009. Germany's storage levels are particularly concerning, with gas reserves only at half capacity. Belgium's storage is slightly better, but its small capacity and direct pipelines to other countries reduce its reliance on winter storage.
