European Heat Wave Pits Region Against Asia in LNG Competition

The ongoing heat wave in France and hotter forecasts for Northeast Asia are driving up demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is pitting Europe against other regions for access to flexible US volumes. As a result, a widening Asian price premium is sharpening competition for these supplies.

A recurring heat wave across Europe has led to increased summer LNG demand, particularly in France where temperatures have soared. Meanwhile, in Northeast Asia, hotter forecasts are also supporting demand for gas.

The global heat wave has created a surge in LNG demand, but the Asian price premium is making it challenging for US exporters to compete with other regions. The widening price gap is putting pressure on US suppliers to divert their volumes to higher-paying markets.
