European Oil Majors Dominate Continent's Energy Mix
Europe's top oil companies continue to play a significant role in the continent's energy mix despite growing calls for decarbonization. The industry is undergoing a transition, with many companies focusing on circularity and sustainable fuels.
The Top 10 ranking of European oil companies by production was dominated by Shell, which produced an average of 2.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025. TotalEnergies came in second place with a production level of 2.529 million boe/d, followed closely by bp with 2.3 million boe/d.
The ranking also included several notable players from the Scandinavian region, including Equinor and Aker BP, which have established themselves as significant players in the Norwegian Continental Shelf market.
