Europe's heat waves and parched soil are posing significant risks to next year's crops, exacerbating global food supply concerns. The continent has already seen a decline in grain acreage over the last 25 years.

Farmers across Europe are delaying planting or reconsidering how much land to cultivate due to dry weather conditions. In the UK, yields for winter wheat are projected to be 13% below the five-year average, with spring barley facing its lowest yields on record since 1999.

The heat waves have also disrupted grain transport routes and upended harvests, contributing to a surge in global food prices. Wheat futures in Paris and Chicago have gained around 19% and 12%, respectively, over the last two months, while corn prices have soared as well.
