Europe's Gas Reserves Hit Record Low Amid Global Supply Fights
Europe's natural gas reserves are dwindling just as summer comes to an end. With less than three months left in the season, the region still needs over 100 terawatt-hours of gas worth more than €7 billion at current prices to reach its lowest storage target of 75%.
This would require an injection pace not seen since the 2022 energy crisis, and risks pushing winter prices above €100 a megawatt-hour, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Rystad Energy, and Morningstar Inc.
As global supply fights intensify, Europe's gamble on gas supplies is looking increasingly costly. Analysts warn that if the region fails to secure sufficient storage capacity by year-end, it could lead to a sharp increase in prices for consumers.
