The European cruise industry is undergoing a significant shift towards cleaner and more sustainable operations. In response to the EU's FuelEU Maritime rules, major players such as TUI and MSC Cruises are transitioning to liquefied biomethane (LBM) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuels.

TUI Cruises is prioritizing LBM, a renewable fuel sourced from sustainable feedstocks. MSC Cruises, on the other hand, has moved beyond basic LNG with the deployment of the MSC World Europa and MSC Euribia. The company is also researching fuel cells to enhance onboard efficiency.

The use of LBM and LNG fuels reduces carbon emissions, aligning with the European Union's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. This shift is driven not only by regulatory pressure but also by growing demand for responsible travel options from passengers.
