Europe's Natural Gas Prices Soar Amid Middle East Tensions
Europe's natural gas prices continue to soar, holding above the 80-euro mark for the third straight day. The front-month price at the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) rose by 0.3% to $92.95 (80.545 euros) per megawatt-hour (MWh), as low gas volumes in storage sites fuel concerns about winter supplies.
The current prices are the highest since the 2022-2023 crisis, and have been driven up by risks to oil and gas supply in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia's shutdown of its key East-West oil pipeline has increased tensions in the region, while the war in the Middle East has crippled LNG supply from Qatar.
Spot LNG prices in Northeast Asia have jumped by $2.70 to $28.40 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), as energy traders struggle to secure readily available global LNG cargoes that don't need to cross geopolitically charged chokepoints.
