EXMAR Converts LNG Carrier into Floating Transshipment Unit

EXMAR, a leading player in the LNG sector, has expanded its commitment to supporting the maritime industry's transition towards cleaner fuels. The company will convert its LNG carrier SIMAISMA into a floating transshipment unit (FTU), designed to improve LNG bunkering efficiency and support the adoption of cleaner marine fuel.

The FTU will serve as an offshore LNG storage and transfer facility, enabling large cargoes of liquefied natural gas to be transferred from conventional LNG carriers to smaller, specialized LNG bunkering vessels. This logistics model is expected to simplify the LNG bunkering process, reduce vessel waiting times, and improve supply chain flexibility for shipping companies seeking cleaner fuel alternatives.

EXMAR's Chief Executive Officer Carl-Antoine Saverys emphasized that the project represents another milestone in the company's long-standing involvement in the LNG sector. He noted that the FTU concept significantly reduces the complexity and expense of LNG bunkering operations, leveraging EXMAR's nearly five decades of expertise in LNG transportation and infrastructure.

EXMAR expects to deploy additional FTUs in the future as demand for LNG-powered vessels continues to grow. The company aims to strengthen LNG bunkering networks and enhance fuel accessibility at major shipping routes and ports.
