Exmar Leases Floating LNG Terminal to Ivory Coast
Belgian shipping company Exmar has leased its Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) to the Ivory Coast for a decade. The terminal, which will be located in the port of Abidjan in southern Ivory Coast, is expected to generate approximately $21.3 million in annual EBITDA for Exmar.
The agreement allows Petroci, the Ivorian oil company, to purchase LNG on the international market and import it via Exmar's floating terminal starting from the third quarter of 2027. The imported gas will then be used by Côte d'Ivoire Energie to generate electricity.
Petroci said in a press release that the FSRU represents an important step forward in strengthening the country's energy security, providing an additional and flexible source of gas to supplement domestic production and existing infrastructure. Exmar stated that the project highlights its floating infrastructure solutions as a quick and competitive way to meet strategic energy needs.
